Every marketplace publishes image rules, and every third-party guide repeats them slightly differently. Here is what is consistent across all of them — and the points where you should check your own seller panel rather than trust a blog, this one included.
What all three agree on
- Square images (1:1). Square photos display consistently in search results and on product pages.
- At least 1000 × 1000 pixels. Smaller images look soft and may not support zoom.
- JPG or PNG. Both are accepted everywhere. JPG gives smaller files for photos.
- A clean main image on a white or plain background, with the product clearly visible.
Amazon
Amazon’s image requirements are the most clearly documented:
- At least 1000 pixels on the longest side for the zoom feature to work.
- Main image on a pure white background, with the product filling most of the frame.
- JPEG, PNG, GIF or TIFF.
Flipkart and Meesho
Both expect square images of 1000 × 1000 or larger on a clean background, in JPG or PNG. Beyond that, published guides contradict each other — for example, Flipkart’s maximum file size is quoted in different places as 1 MB and as 10 MB, and minimum sizes vary between guides. Treat the requirements shown in your own Seller Hub or Supplier Panel as the source of truth.
| Amazon | Flipkart | Meesho | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shape | Square recommended | Square | Square |
| Size | 1000 px+ longest side (zoom) | 1000 × 1000+ | 1000 × 1000+ |
| Format | JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF | JPG, PNG | JPG, PNG |

Preparing images that pass everywhere
- Shoot or export the largest original you can.
- Make it square without cropping the product, using white padding — see how to make photos square without cropping.
- Resize to 1000 × 1000 or 2000 × 2000 with the image resizer.
- Save as JPG, and compress if your panel shows a size limit.
One set of 2000 × 2000 JPGs on white works across all three marketplaces.
